Soul in bliss

Vision

Vision

Vision

Started in May 2001, Soul in Bliss was created as a space for artists to explore and test new ideas. It brings clarity and understanding to Shakespeare through the language of the First Folio (1623), while fostering a fearless artistic environment where actors and texts meet with honesty, curiosity, and freedom—championing authentic voice, bold exploration, and a living connection to language, from classical works to new plays. YOUR VOICE! YOUR SHAKESPEARE!

Vision

Vision

Soul in Bliss is where I come to experiment as an artist—a space to direct new work, discover new actors, and create without constraint. It is a place of exploration and risk, where live performance and staged readings span from Anton Chekhov and William Shakespeare to George Bernard Shaw, allowing language, voice, and imagination to meet in fresh and immediate ways.

Process

My process begins with breath—grounding the actor in presence and voice. From there, you explore text through active listening, impulse, and clarity of language, encouraging actors to inhabit thought rather than perform emotion. Rehearsals are collaborative and exploratory, balancing structure with freedom, allowing each actor’s authentic voice to shape the work.

SO FAR

Process

Process

To date, we have presented over 100 staged readings, including every play by Shakespeare contained in the First Folio. On September 27, 2025, we performed all eight plays of the Wars of the Roses cycle in a single day. Our work continues with our seventh season, A Season of Secrets, Scandals, and Monsters. I am deeply grateful to the Shakespeare Villa for their ongoing support and belief in the work we strive to create.
